National Center for Education Statistics, updated May 2024How to read these figures
The 2024 Census figures come from the October School Enrollment Supplement and provide a newer national view of enrollment. The National Center for Education Statistics figures use 2022 American Community Survey data to show how enrollment differs by age and whether education is public or private.
Because the sources use different surveys and age groupings, they should not be treated as a single year-to-year trend line. The source note attached to every statistic matters as much as the number itself.
